Fatima Sanctuary
A space for reflection and prayer, the Sanctuary was born from the request made by Our Lady of the Rosary to the three little shepherds during the apparition on 13 October 1917 - "I want to tell you that a chapel should be built here in my honour, for I am the Lady of the Rosary".
In 1919 the Capelinha das Aparicoes was then erected on the exact spot where the Lady appeared to Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta, so that since that date the increasing number of pilgrims has led to the building of the Sanctuary, with different places for worship and prayer.

Nazare
Nazaré has a long crescent-shaped sandy beach, which is also the town's seafront, and is known for its grandeur and the brightly-coloured awnings that decorate the white sandy beach in contrast to the blue of the water.
This is the beach in Portugal where fishing traditions are more colourful and where the local fishmongers still wear the seven skirts, as tradition dictates.
Nowadays, the great attraction of Nazaré are the waves and the surf, thanks to the "Canhão da Nazaré", an underwater geomorphological phenomenon that allows the formation of giant and perfect waves. It is the largest submerged canyon in Europe, with about 170 kilometres along the coast, which is up to 5000 metres deep.
